The Search for Missing Scout Continues

September 2, 2004 -- High in the mountains of Utah, to the east of Salt Lake City, a massive search effort has been underway for the past week. Twelve-year-old Boy Scout, Garrett Bardsley, was last seen by his father on August 20th. He had been fishing with his father when he got his pants and shoes wet. His father then sent him back to camp, which has been described as 150 yards to a quarter mile from the lake on a well-established path. That fateful decision has led to the search that began as a rescue, but has since progressed to a recovery effort. Searchers hold out little hope of finding the boy alive. He had no food or water and was wearing sweats, a t-shirt and a hooded sweatshirt. Against the freezing temperatures and rain mixed with snow, it seems impossible that he could have survived with what he had. One can only imagine what his parents must be experiencing. The emotions involved in a search such as this are the crux of the plot in a new book, titled The Secret of Christmas, by Bernadette G. Reiter and Jean-Marie Pélissié.

A touching story, The Secret of Christmas, is about a frantic search on Christmas Eve for a five-year-old girl who has wandered away from the mall in search of heaven. She has been told that her daddy now lives in heaven, and wants only two things for Christmas – to see her father again, and to have a puppy. Unfortunately, a winter storm envelops the town, making the chances of finding her alive a dim possibility. Perfect for a cold winter evening, the story carries a message of love and hope, with the Christmas season as the backdrop. Such a story will warm your heart and renew your faith.

The search for a missing child has to be the most heart-wrenching experience imaginable for any parent. The family of the missing Utah Boy Scout can only be experiencing the deepest sense of loss and sadness right now. The Secret of Christmas will remind you that there is still hope alive in the world, and that miracles can happen.
